These photos are taken on and from a rock mount near old hippodrome in Tbilisi. The mount divides Saburtalo and Vake districts and is cut through by a “Vake-Saburtalo road” (aka Tamarashvili street).
From the top of the mount hippodrome here are views of: Vake-Saburtalo road, new road in the vere valley, Kipshidze residential district, portions of Bagebi, Delisi, Panaskerteli st. districts and Nutsubidze Plateau, as well as now defunct old hippodrome territory.
Former base of the Soviet/Russian Military Command in the South Caucasus, recently acquired by TBC Bank for its the headquarters, which is scheduled to move here at some point in the near future.
Nutsubidze Plateau – large residential district situated on hills, developed somewhere during the late 70s and 80s.
Vake-Saburtalo road heading towards Saburtalo.
Near defunct and probably soon-to-be-sold institute of physics, with a gorgeous building and garden.
New administrative building on a new road near lisi lake.
Vake-Saburtalo road heading towards Vake.
Vere river valley runs along the mount, which was quite deserted and wild, as a backyard scene, for some of the residential blocks in Vake (Tamarashvili st, Tskneti st, Kipshidze st etc.).
In recent years though, due to influx of cars, construction and urbanization Vere river valley was developed into an additional transportation artery which connects Vake-Saburtalo traffic to downtown directly.
Construction that has begun in 80s and isn’t still finished yet (for some unknown reasons).
Tskneti street blocks.
Plants for the city grown on an old hippodrome land.
Strange huge reservoire on the mount.
Mix of Soviet and relatively new buildings on Kipshidze st.
Khiliani district blocks.
Kipshidze st. and Tbilisi downtown in a smoggy background.
A point at the old hippodrome, where new connecting road will emerge from a tunnel right beneath us. The road will tie Vere valley to Saburtalo st.
New construction blocks creeping into outskirts, on the mount hippodrome.
Tbilisi TV tower and the ferry wheel.
Vere valley, new road and the portion of the tunnel entry.
Panaskerteli st. blocks.
A new residential building and a new church on the Saburtalo st.
Old hippodrome. Great place to hang out, so far.
